Patient Alimuddin, 62 yr old male hailing from Silchar, Assam, presented with complaints of giddiness, decreased hearing, and a buzzing sound in his left ear. Clinical examinations and scans diagnosed him with cholesteatoma of the left ear accompanied by temporal bone osteomyelitis. He was counselled regarding the need for surgery to address his condition and subsequently underwent a complex surgery called subtotal petrosectomy. The infection in the skull base was fully cleared during the procedure, and his facial nerve was successfully preserved. Mr. Alimuddin has been doing well post-surgery and is on regular follow-up. He is thrilled to have been cured of the infection. We wish him all the very best in life.

Rajkumar, a 62-year-old diabetic patient, was referred to Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao for consultation at Bangalore Head & Neck Sciences (BHNS), Bangalore. He complained of headache, nasal blockage, and impending unilateral facial weakness. He was examined at BHNS and after undergoing relevant scans, he was diagnosed with Fungal Skull Base Osteomyelitis. Subsequently scans also revealed that he had developed Mycotic aneurysms of the Petrous Internal Carotid Artery and Middle Cerebral Arteries due to the infection. Rajkumar then underwent Subtotal Petrosectomy with Blind Sac Closure of the ear and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). The patient was also simultaneously implanted with OSIA implant for restoration of his lost hearing, in the same sitting. Surgery was successful and the disease was completely cleared despite the surgical challenges. His aneurysms resolved due to the rigorous treatment. Post switch-on of the implant, the patient was thrilled to get his hearing back. He is doing well is on regular follow-up. We at BHNS wish him all the best.

7 year old child Monika came to Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao at Bangalore Head and Neck Sciences, Bangalore with evidence of deafness in both the ears. She was examined at BHNS and underwent tests and scans which revealed that she had Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss. The parents were counselled for Cochlear Implantation which would bring back hearing to the child. The surgery was done successfully and the child was implanted with a top tier Cochlear Implant. The switch-on for the implant was done one month after surgery and the child was elated to hear sound for the first time. Shilpa, a 35 year old lady was operated elsewhere for ear complaints and subsequently after a year later, she experienced nausea and vomiting. She was referred to Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao and to our center. On examination, there was a pulsating mass in the operated ear. Scans revealed a condition called Meningoencephalic Herniation wherein the brain tissue above the ear had prolapsed into the operated ear cavity. Patient was taken up for surgery to deal with this by Dr. Sampath Rao and Team BHNS. It was found to be a massive herniation which was repaired and the ear cavity was closed by doing a blind sac closure. She is recovering well and is free of her symptoms.

Patient 62 years old, referred to our centre with complaints of Left Facial Palsy with ear discharge. Diagnosed as case of Skull Base Osteomyelitis. Patient underwent Left Subtotal Petrosectomy Surgery on 4th May 2024. Post-Operative period was uneventful. Patient is on regular follow up & doing well.

The patient arrived at our facility with giddiness and tinnitus in the left ear that had persisted for 1.5 years. She also mentioned that her left ear's hearing had diminished. A pulsatile reddish mass behind the left Tympanic Membrane was discovered during an ear examination. After undergoing brain imaging with MRI, the patient was identified as having a left Tympanojugular Paraganglioma. Patient underwent Infratemporal Fossa Approach for exision of the Tympanojugular Paraganglioma. In the same sitting, patient also underwent procedure for Osseointegrated implant (OSIA Hearing Implant).

Patient presented with progressive loss of hearing in his left ear and a histoty of Tinnitus for 6 months. Examination of the patient and investigations revealed progressive loss of hearing in the left ear. A c-VEMP test was performed, which indicated Left Ear Vestibular Dysfunction. After diagnosis, patient underwent resection via Translabyrinthine Approach to remove the Vestibular Schwannoma. To rehabilitate his progressive hearing loss, patient opted for Osia 2 Implant System and was implanted in the same sitting. The post-operative period was uneventful. And during regular follow-up appointments, the patient has reported to have renewed his hearing and confidence and is doing well.

Patient presented with Right Ear Discharge and decreased Hearing. Examinations and investigations was indicative of Petrous Bone Cholesteatoma. She underwent Subtotal Petrosectomy, Post-operative period was uneventful. She is on regular follow up.
